FRANCIS or FRANK CLARK JACOBS and MARY PORCH SHEPPERD JACOBS
50th Wedding Anniversary

5 September 1920
405 N. Tracy Ave., Bozeman, Montana

4th in from left @ top row, Alice Erlene Jacobs [dress was orange). Center with 'forked beard' - Frank C. Jacobs. On his L, Mary (Porch Shepperd) Jacobs, his wife. On her L (short lady, standing), "Aunt Jane" (Elizabeth Jane Shepperd) Haley. Chloe (Chloe Bertha Wells) Jacobs seated, grey tone dress - with face scratched out (she herself did this in this album). Henry Isaac Jacobs sitting on far right, 3rd in holding Chloe Veda Jacobs with white bow in hair, and Donald Henry Jacobs also in his father's lap. "Aunt Lily Mae" (Mae Jacobs) and "Aunt Fannie" Jacobs are also pictured, per Alice Erlene Jacobs Andes - unknown places.

**************************************************************************

Within the Jacobs' family it was verbally passed down that their lineage had dated from William the Conqueror; Bonnie Andes, my sister-in-law, has found this to be true, tracing the lineage through Sarah Palgrave, who before Nicholas Jacobs (1st known generation) married into the Jacobs' line.

Generation #1: Nicholas Jacobs m. ?Mary Gilman
Generation #2: Joseph Jacobs m. Hannah Bosworth
Generation #3: Nathaniel Jacobs 'of Hull' m. Mercy 'Mary' Whitman
Generation #4: Benjamin Jacobs m. Dorothy (Dolly) Arnold
Generation #5: Nathan Jacobs m. Sarah Clark
Generation #6: Nathan Jacobs, Jr. m. Berilla Whitney
Generation #7: Francis or Frank Clark Jacobs m. Mary Porch Sheppard
Generation #8: Henry Isaac Jacobs m. Chloe Bertha Wells
Generation #9: Alice Erlene Jacobs m. Jerome Eli Andes
Generation #10: Mary Charlotte Andes (site author) m. John Calvin Gamel

1st Generation: NICHOLAS JACOBS m. ?Mary Gilman

The first Jacobs' name which the Andes Genealogy Work (1) lists, is that of Nicholas Jacobs. This first ancestors' occupation was that of a "planter". His birthplace was Hanover, Suffolk, England, and he came from 'Old Hingham'. His first child is listed as born in 1630, in England, so his wife probably was also from England. Her exact name is not certain, but a Mary Gilman is listed with '?' mark by Bonnie Andes (1). Please note that in near entirety, the data that follows, with exception noted by reference #, is entirely Bonnie's work.  To continue....

This family settled in North America in 1633 in Watertown, Massachusetts. They became parents of 8 children, including Joseph Jacobs, being their second child, who was born 10 May 1646, in Hingham, MA; it is also noted he was baptized at that time. He had a total of three brothers and four sisters, and from their birthplaces all being Hingham, the family must have remained there during that time. Nicholas Jacobs died on June 5, 1657, and was buried in Hingham.

Hingham, Mass. is located on the ocean at Hingham Bay, which is part of Boston Bay; Hingham is about 25 miles east of Boston, Mass. I wonder if it was named because the Jacobs' (and perhaps others who may have come with them) were from Old Hingham, in England ??... Interesting thought.

2nd Generation: JOSEPH JACOBS married HANNAH BOSWORTH

Joseph Jacobs was Nicholas Jacobs' son, and we know from Bonnie Andes' Work (1) that his trade was a carpenter and that he married Hannah Bosworth in ca.1670. The 6 children born to them were all also born in Hinghan, Mass. There were 5 boys, all born first, and the last child, a girl. The family line is from their youngest son, named Nathaniel who was born June 29,1683. Joseph Jacobs is also noted to have been the founder of the town, Bristol, Rhode Island. (History of Hingham, Mass, listed by Bonnie H. Andes @ bottom of Family Group Sheet of Nicholas Jacobs by Bonnie H. Andes, Andes Genealogy Work.)

5TH GENERATION: NATHAN JACOBS married SARAH CLARK

Nathan was born in Guilford, Vermont on June 21,1753. Guilford is located in the southeast corner of Vermont, immediately north of the Massachusetts state line. Between his birth date and the year Nathan married Sarah Clark in 1789, the Revolutionary War was fought and won. Sarah’s father was Captain John Clarke, a Revolutionary officer. From 1789 through 1800, in just 11 years, Nathan and Sarah had a total of 12 children, 9 boys and 3 girls. Their names and birth dates were gleaned by Bonnie Andes (1,4, and 5). Our line comes from Nathan, Jr., their second son. Nathan Jacobs was buried May 4, 1846 in Bennington, Vermont (Bennington in about 35 – 40 miles west of Guilford, Vermont so he may have lived out the rest of his in that small southern Vermont area) and Sarah died August 22, 1843. Nathan’s age was 83 and Sarah’s was 77 years at the times of their deaths.
